"In Memory of Sandra Rosss Cheatham"

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 began overcast at the Riverfront Golf Course in Harbourview in North Suffolk, but it didn’t stop the enthusiasm of our committee members in diving into the necessary set-up for our 25th Annual Golf Tournament.  Led by Lori Walker, signs, goodie bags and door prizes were unloaded and work began with kind assistance by the club’s pro, Tim Newsome, and his staff.  By the time the golfers arrived, everything was organized and ready to roll as we registered the golfers, sold mulligans, 50-50 raffle tickets and a door prize ticket for a 32 inch flat screen TV.  Golf carts were loaded with a wonderful stash of treats, tees, koozies, lip  balm, pens, cups, gift certificates, etc. for our players that numbered 35 which was down a bit from the initial count due to last minute conflicts for those registrants that didn’t show.  We were particularly excited to have Sandra’s son playing again with his team.

Lunch was served and a shotgun start at 1:00 PM got the golfers on their way.  A game of corn hole and one of ladder golf were stationed on a couple of holes for them to earn more tickets for our door prizes which consisted of shirts, vests and other clothing, gift cards, wine, golf umbrellas, travel chair, coolers, golf balls to name a few.  As the day wore on, the rain held off except for a few sprinkles and in the end the sunshine came out.

By five o’clock, they started streaming in as they finished playing to be met with a buffet of fried chicken, BBQ and fixings.  Homemade desserts were donated by our members for the golfers to enjoy.  As they finished eating, we started calling the door prizes, then; the assistant pro began to announce the winning teams of the different flights.  The 50/50 raffle was called and then the winner of the TV was announced.

Everyone seemed to enjoy our “intimate” tournament and all were on their way home by 7:30 PM.  We would like to thank all members who solicited sponsors, goodies for the bags, and door prizes for the event.  Special thanks go to Lori Walker, golf tournament chair whose enthusiasm and drive made the tournament possible.  Thank you too to Jenny Davis, door prize and goodie bag chair and Ann Benton, volunteer chair as well as Beth Brooks and Trish Halstead for their assistance on this venture.
